The Doisy College of Health Sciences has numerous scholarships which assist students in funding their education. Generous support from alumni and friends have established these funds. To add your financial support to these funds, write the name of the fund on the memo section or your check, or type in the name of the fund on the online giving form.

For more information about these funds, please contact the Stewardship Office at 314.977.3145. If you are a student seeking financial aid, please direct all questions regarding the awarding of scholarships to the Office of Financial Aid. The Advancement Division does not award scholarships.

Doisy College of Health Sciences Scholarships

Scholarship Name Scholarship Description
Alice Zipf O'Rourke Endowed Fellowship The purpose of this fund is to provide financial aid to an undergraduate Clinical Laboratory Sciences student at the Doisy College of Health Sciences, allowing the student to provide research assistance to an assigned faculty member.
Culinary Scholarship Fund This fund was established for culinary students accepted into the undergraduate program in Nutrition & Dietetics.
David W. Wagner Memorial Scholarship The fund was established in memory of David Wagner, who served as chairman of the Department of Physician Assistant Education. The scholarship benefits students in the Physician Assistant program. (old description)

Elmo & Jean Poole Endowment Fund for HIM The purpose of this designation is to promote education and program development in the department of Health Information Management.
Florian and Walburga Horvath Mem. Health Professions Scholar This fund was established in memory of the parents of Frances Horvath (MD67), dean of the School of Allied Health Professions, to benefit students in the School of Allied Health Professions.
Healthy Futures Scholarship This fund was established for minority students accepted into the undergraduate program in Nutrition & Dietetics.
Jerome A. Jeskey Memorial Scholarship This fund was established by Jerome Jeskey (AH59) to provide financial assistance for students in good standing who are majoring in the field of radiological technology.
Julie A. Holmes Memorial Scholarship This scholarship was established in memory of Julie Holmes (AH98) to provide for students in the department of occupational therapy in the School of Allied Health Professions.
Lawless Estate Allied Health Scholarship This fund was established by the estate of John Lawless to benefit students in the School of Allied Health Professions.
Orville C & Florene B Rosemeyer Schlp AH This scholarship was established by Orville (BA68) and Florene Rosemeyer to provide funding for students in the Doisy College of Health Sciences.
Sr Imelda Pingel Scholarship This fund was established in 1983 by the alumni and friends of the Program in Physical Therapy in honor of Sr. Imelda Pingel, PT, FSM (AH42) to benefit students in the Program in Physical Therapy.
Sr. Mary Carola Sellmeyer Scholarship This scholarship was established in honor of Sr. Mary Carola Sellmeyer, FSM (NU34) for nutrition and dietetics students in the School of Allied Health Professions.
Sr. Mary Dolorosa Pope/Anna Warren Oller Scholarship This fund was established in memory of Sr. Mary Dolorosa Pope (NU37) to benefit students in the clinical laboratory science program in the School of Allied Health Professions.
Sr. Mary Servatia Scholarship Fund This scholarship was established in honor of Sr. Mary Servatia Risse (NU38) for health information management students in the School of Allied Health Professions.
Thomas G. Cutcher Endowed Scholarship This scholarship was established by Thomas Cutcher (AH57) to benefit physical therapy students in the Doisy College of Health Sciences.
Tina and Louis DeBenedetti Term Scholarship Fund The purpose of this fund is to benefit a student enrolled in their last year of study in the Physical Therapy program at the Doisy College of Health Sciences.

Scholarships Specific to the School of Nursing

Alice Roth Scholarship This scholarship was stablished by the trust of Benjamin Roth and is rewarded to students in the School of Nursing.
Anne Shields Stimming Scholarship This scholarship was established in 1997 by Charles E. Stimming in memory of his wife, Anne. Mrs. Stimming was a 1958 graduate of the School of Nursing, and the scholarship is restricted to students in the School of nursing.
Belva Olsen Carroll Memorial Scholarship This scholarship fund for students in the School of Nursing was established by Evelyn Volenberg in memory of her sister, a 1937 Nursing graduate.
Carol McCarthy Accelerated Nursing Scholarship The purpose of this fund is to provide financial assistance to SLU alumni who have elected to pursue a second degree at SLU in the Accelerated BSN Nursing program.
Carrie Elligson Gietner Scholarship Fund Carrie Elligson Gietner Scholarship Fund for Training in Long Term Care. Awards from this fund will be made to support education of at least one Baccalaureate or higher level nursing student who plans to work in long term care.
Catherine Vacca Nepute Scholarship Established in 1997 by Joan Hrubetz, dean of the School of Nursing. Dr. Hrubetz earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University in 1960 along with her master's degree.
Charlotte Stack Endowed Scholarship This fund was established in 1996 by Lenita Stack and Mary Stack, a 1967 Nursing School graduate, in memory of Charlotte Stack, a 1941 Nursing School graduate. The scholarship is restricted to undergraduate nursing students.
Clarice Tierney Endowed Scholarship Fund This fund was established in 1991 on the 20th anniversary of the nursing accelerated option program. The fund honors Clarice Tierney, a 1945 Nursing School graduate and the program's founder. The scholarship is restricted to the program's students.
Doris M. Ripple Endowed Nursing Scholarship This fellowship is to provide financial aid to an undergraduate nursing student and shall be based on academic merit and/or financial need.
Elizabeth J. Drowns Nursing Scholarship Fund This endowed fund is to establish the Elizabeth J. Drowns Nursing Scholarship Fund. The income will be used to provide scholarships to students in the School of Nursing.
Evelyn Ann Riddle Endowed Scholarship This scholarship was established in 2000 for new or returning students in Master of Science Nursing degree program studying any specialty at the school of nursing. Student may be enrolled on-site or on-line with as few as 3 credit hours per semester
Florence Bowmaster Griffin & Cecil Howard Griffin Endowed Memorial Scholarship This fund was established by Anne Perry (NU '76) in memory of her parents Florence and Cecil Griffin to benefit students in the School of Nursing.
Franciscan Sisters Endowed Scholarship This fund was established in 1988 by various individuals, professional groups, and the Franciscan Sisters of Mary for graduate and undergraduate students in the School of Nursing. Recipients must demonstrate financial need and maintain a 3.0 GPA.
Gentner Estate-Nursing School Endowment This fund was established in 1989 by the estate of Lorraine Marie Gentner for undergraduate nursing student scholarships. Ms. Gentner was a 1959 graduate of the Nursing School.
Gertrude Buholzer Busch Scholarship This scholarship provides financial assistance to Nursing majors.
Gisela Karnstedt Skyles Memorial Nursing Scholarship This scholarship is used to provide financial assistance to undergraduate nursing students for their sophomore, junior, or senior year of study. It is based on academic merit and/or financial need.
Grace Louise Potter and William Noble Potter Endowed Memorial Scholarship This fund was established in honor of the Potters and benefits students in the School of Nursing.
Irene Bell Nursing Scholarship This scholarship was established in 1998 by Irene Bell for nursing students.
Jean Drahmann Accelerated BSN Endowed Scholarship Fund The purpose of this Fund is to benefit students enrolled in the accelerated nursing program of the School of Nursing at Doisy College of Health Sciences.
Joan Hrubetz Honorary Scholarship Fund This fund was established in honor of Joan Hrubetz for students in the School of Nursing.
Kathleen Sonderman Simonet Scholarship This endowed scholarship in the School of Nursing is for students pursuing a career in oncology nursing or hospice care that must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5.
Lawless Estate Nursing Scholarship This fund was established through an estate gift to benefit Nursing majors.
Marilyn J. Huber Scholarship This scholarship was established for awards to students pursuing master's degrees in gerontological nursing. Individuals will be selected by the Dean of the School of Nursing.
Marion Bender Scholarship This endowment fund is to establish the Marion Bender Scholarship Fund. The income will be used to provide financial aid to students in the School of Nursing.
Marjorie Kiely-Fredericks Scholarship This fund was established by the late Marjorie Keiley-Fredericks, a 1951 graduate of the College of Arts. The scholarship is for full-time female students in the School of Nursing who have children and who maintain at least a 2.5 GPA.
Mark Garcia Scholarship Fund This nursing scholarship is in memory of Mark Garcia, a University Hospital employee who planned to attend the School of Nursing.
Martha Ann Schengber Scholarship This fund was established by faculty member Dr. John Schengber in memory of his wife, Martha Ann. The scholarship is for financially needy students in the School of Nursing. Dr. Schengber is a 1959 Medical graduate, and his late wife a 1957 Nursing graduate.
Michelson Scholarship-Nursing School This fund was established by Margaret Michelson, a 1939 graduate of the School of Nursing. The scholarship is restricted to undergraduate students in the School of Nursing.
Mildred S. Dennis Scholarship This fund was established in 1997 by the estate of Mildred Dennis for nursing students.
NANDA Scholarship Fund This fund was established by the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association. The scholarship is restricted to graduate or doctoral students performing a nursing diagnosis research project.
Nina Opari Swanson Memorial Scholarship This scholarship was established by Dr. and Mrs. Robert M. Swanson. Preference is given to Eastern European immigrants and African-American males in the School of Nursing.
Rev Edward Filipiak Endowed Scholarship This scholarship was established in 1987 by Amvets Unit #55 in memory of the archdiocesan priest who had served as their chaplain. The scholarship is for worthy but needy graduate or undergraduate nursing students.
Rita Kerlin Benning Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund This scholarship is used to provide financial assistance to undergraduate nursing students. Full fund name is Rita Kelin Benning Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Shaw-Engler Endowed Scholarship Fund This fund established by Orena Margie Shaw is for aid to PhD Candidates in the School of Nursing.
Thelma Heil Kiske Term Scholarship This scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. Eric Kunsman in memory of Thelma Heil Kiske
Viola & Ferdinand Beckmann Scholarship This fund was established by faculty member Dr. Ruth Beckmann Murray in memory of her parents. The scholarship is for general, accelerated option or R.N. students who possess a 2.5 GPA and proven leadership skills.
Votsmier Estate Scholarship This fund was established by Dorothy Votsmier (NR 47) in her estate to benefit students in the School of Nursing.
