College of Arts & Sciences Scholarships

The College of Arts and Sciences has numerous scholarships which assist students in funding their education. Generous support from alumni and friends have established these funds. To add your financial support to these funds, write the name of the fund on the memo section or your check, or type in the name of the fund on the online giving form.

For more information about these funds, please contact the Stewardship Office at 314.977.3145. If you are a student seeking financial aid, please direct all questions regarding the awarding of scholarships to the Office of Financial Aid. The Advancement Divisions does not award scholarships.

Adele C. Del Vecchio Endowed Scholarship This endowed scholarship is awarded to Undergraduate students in the School of Arts and Sciences who demonstrate financial need.
Alexander Grammaticoff Scholarship This scholarship fund is for language or social studies majors with a GPA between 2.5 and 3.5 from middle class families with financial need. Funding of the fund comes from the estate of Nada Henson.
Alvina Rose Herman Endowed Scholarship This fund was established by Alvine Rose Herman to benefit an undergraduate student in the College of A&S who is employed.
Arlo and Ethel Jensen Endowed Scholarship Fund This fund was established by Sr. Joy Jensen, S.L., Ph.D. in memory of her aunt and uncle. The purpose of the fund is to award scholarship money to graduate students in the departments of Theological Studies and American Studies.
Arts and Sciences Scholarship Fund This fund is used to record gifts for general scholarships in the College of Arts and Sciences.
August A. Busch, Jr. Scholarship for Studies in the Humanities This scholarship provides financial support to students in the Humanities.
Avis Meyer Scholarship Award To provide an annual scholarship to a full-time under graduate student who is a member of The University News writing staff, is majoring in Communications or English, and mai ntains a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Bernard Rice Scholarship This scholarship is for students in Chemistry and was founded in honor of Bernard Rice, a former professor of Chemistry.
Chan Graduate Student Support Fund The purpose of this fund is to provide additional support to students on Nuttli Fellowship.
Chinese Researchers Language Fund The purpose of this fund is to fund stipends and ESL tuition for student researchers from China.
Cicardo Graduate Fellowship in English This fund was established in 1996 by Dr. Barbara Cicardo in honor of her parents. The fund provides an annual stipend for a doctoral student in the English Department who will provide writing consultation to graduate students. Dr. Cicardo earned her Ph.D.
Cissie & Hank Rozier Scholarship This scholarship is restricted to students in the College of Arts. Mrs. Rozier is a 1948 Arts graduate, as was her late husband.
Claude Heithaus, SJ A&S Scholarship The fund was established in 2000 as a renewable scholarship to Arts and Sciences students who complete 30 hours of service per semester at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church.
Clifford & Armarie Murphy Scholarship The fund was established in 1999 by Armarie Murphy for an American-born student in the College of Arts
Dan Kelly Memorial Scholarship This scholarship for students in broadcast journalism honors the memory of Dan Kelly, a renowned sports announcer in hockey.
Don C. Musick, Jr. Arts and Sciences Endowed Scholarship This scholarship is to be awarded to a deserving student in the college of Arts and Sciences.
Dotsy Bates Endowed Scholarship Fund The fund was established in 1985 in memory of Dorothy Bates by her family. The fund supports graduate students in clinical psychology.
Dr Arthur G Rouse Memorial Student Award This fund was established in memory of Dr. Rouse, a faculty member for 34 years in the Department of Physics. The award is restricted to students in the College of Arts.
Dr Henry Christopher Endowed Scholarship This fund honors Dr. Christopher, a former faculty member. The scholarship is for students majoring in political science who maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.
Dr Nelly Grosswasser Russian Scholarship This fund shall be used to provide scholarships to undergraduate students majoring in Russian.
Dr. James Collins Memorial Scholarship The fund was established in 1985 by gifts from friends, family, former students and the professional colleagues of the late James Collins, a former University faculty member. The fund is for graduate students in the Department of Philosophy.
Dr. John F. Manera Endowed Scholarship This fund provides financial scholarships to Pre-Dental students in the College of Arts & Sciences.
Dr. Mary Louise Adams Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship This fund was established by Dr. Mary Louise Adams (GR51/60) to assist females in GRAS with a dissertation fellowship.
Dr. Quentin Heisler Scholarship Fund This fund was established in 1998 by Dr. Thomas Heisler in honor of his father to provide scholarships for philosophy or English majors. The scholarship is to provide equal support to minority and non-minority students. Dr. Thomas Heisler is a 1964 graduate.
Dr. Robert Solso Endowed Scholarship Fun This scholarship was established for graduate students in the Experimental Psychology Program.
Ehrhart-Blaine Fellowship in Philosophy This fund was established in 1998 by Elizabeth Ehrhart-Blaine, a 1971 Arts graduate, and her husband, Gregory. The fund supports a Ph.D. student in the Department of Philosophy.
Eleanor C Waegner Scholarship This scholarship was established by the estate of Eleanor Waegner for needy Missouri Province Theological Studies students.
Ella Marth Snader Scholarship This fund was established by the estate of Ella Snader for third-year students who have demonstrated excellence in the science of mathematics. Mrs. Snader was a 1944 Arts graduate.
Fr. Reinert Arts & Sciences Scholarship The fund was established in 1997 by the late William E. Bissinger, a 1935 and 1936 graduate of the College of Arts, and his wife, Vivian.
Fr. Severin Scholarship-Psychology Dept. This fund honors Father Severin and benfits psychology students.
Francis Regan Scholarship This scholarship was established in honor of the late Dr. Regan, an emeritus University professor. The fund is for senior students in Pi Mu Epsilon who have a solid GPA and have participated in extra-curricular activities.
Frederic G. and Rhea M. Maurer Scholarship The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships in Arts & Sciences.
Freedonia Christian Missionary Baptist Church Scholarship The purpose of this fund is to provide financial aid to a Saint Louis City Public Schools graduate (Freshman) in the College of Arts and Sciences. Preference is given to students with interests in Theological/Religious Studies. A GPA of 3.0 or higher and financial need are required.
Greater StLouis Rubber Group Scholarship This fund was established in 1997 by the Greater St. Louis Area Rubber Group for a senior chemistry major with sound academic achievement and involvement in undergraduate chemistry research.
H. Virginia Bauer Scholarship The fund was established by the estate of Helen Virginia Bauer, a 1948 graduate of the College of Arts. The scholarship is for students pursuing a bachelor of arts degree who also exhibit high academic ability and achievement.
Harold and Mary Jane Tall Memorial Fund To provide annual award to clinical psychology student who 1) is an older student 2) contributed to improving morale 3)demonstrates broad base of achievement 4)nominated by faculty on basis if merit. account opened 05/02.
Haworth Endowed Scholarship in Classics This fund was established by the family and friends of Father Haworth, S.J., a former professor of classical languages. The scholarship is restricted to students in the College of Arts.
Italian Study Abroad Scholarship This fund provides scholarships for deserving students of Italian at SLU who are going to study abroad in Italy.
J Barry McGannon SJ Memorial Scholarship This scholarship was established in 2001 by James R. Weber in memory of Fr. J. Barry McGannon for students in the College of Arts.
J Hunt & Margaret A Benoist Scholarship This scholarship was established in 2002 from the estate of J. Hunt and Margaret Benoist by their son Peter for students in the College of Arts and Sciences.
J. Anthony Reinert Memorial Scholarship This fund was established by Pauli and Bernard Reinert and memorial gifts for financial aid to students of College of Arts
James G. Costigan Endowed Scholarship Income from this fund provides a scholarship to a junior or senior student(s) majoring in Mathematics or Computer Sciences and will continue through their senior year. The chairperson of the department, in consultation wih the Office of Financial Aid, wil
James J. Butler Scholarship This scholarship was established for students pursuing a bachelor of arts degree.
Jennifer Ameli Daugherty Endowed Memorial Scholarship This scholarship in Jennifer Daugherty's memory sponsors a student participating in the French Program in Lyon, France. It was amended in 2004 and may offer FinAid to student majoring in French or any other foreign language.
John & Helen Reid Theology Scholarship This scholarship was established by George E. Reid, a 1968 Graduate School alumnus, in memory of his parents for students in theology.
John B. Drahmann End. Undergraduate Research Fund in Science This scholarship was established by Jean Drahmann in memory of her husband. It benefits undergraduate students who are research workers in the chemistry or biology departments.
John Drahmann End. Undergrad Research Scholarship in Physics This scholarship was established by Jean Drahmann in memory of her husband. It benefits undergraduate students who are research workers in the Physics department.
John J Andrews Grad Service Award This fund was established in 1975 by John J. Andrews, a former University professor of mathematics, for graduate mathematics students.
John J. Dwyer Scholarship Fund This scholarship established in 1997 in memory of John J. Dwyer gives preference to political science students.
John Paul Kovalkoski, Ph.D. Scholarship This endowed scholarship will provide stipend to be added to an existing graduate assistantship in the Dept of Psychology for a new, incoming student. The fund was started by Connie Kovalkoski, sister of John Paul.
Joseph G. Knapp, S.J. Scholarship Fund This scholarship was established in 1988 by Dr. and Mrs. Matthias Backer in memory of Mrs. Backer's brother. The fund is for graduate students in English. Dr. Backer is a 1950 graduate of the Medical School.
Josephine&J.Reynolds Medart Scholarship This fund was established in 1997 by Josephine B. Medart for worthy and needy undergraduate students in the College of Arts.
Judith & Adam Aronson Scholarship Fund This scholarship fund is used to support art and art history students as directed by the donors.
Juliana M. Lewis Endowed Scholarship This scholarship was established in 2000 to support female Religious students pursuing graduate studies.
Kathryn N. Winters Endowed Scholarship This scholarship was established in 2002 by the Estate of Kathryn Winters (NU78) for an Arts and Sciences student.
Kenneth C. Marshall Scholarship This scholarship provides assistance for pre-dental students.
Knoedler A&S Undergraduate Research Fund This scholarship was established in 1996 by Mary Knoedler, who received her master's degree in 1954 from the University. The fund is for undergraduate Arts students and covers expenses associated with research.
Lawless Estate Arts & Sciences Scholarship This scholarship was established by the Lawless Estate to benefit students in the College of Arts & Sciences.
Lawrence Baricevic Endowed Scholarship This scholarship was established in memory of former faculty member Lawrence Baricevic for a freshman who intends to major in communication.
Leonor K Sullivan Scholarship Fund This scholarship was established by Congresswoman Leonor Sullivan for female political science students with high academic achievement.
Louis & Katherine Fernandez Scholarship This scholarship was established by Louis Fernandez, Trustee Emeritus of the University, and his wife, Katherine for students studying in the college of Arts and Sciences.
Macelwane/Blum Scholarship Fund This scholarship was established in memory of Fr. James Macelwane, the first Dean of the Institute of Technology and a later Dean, Fr. Victor Blum. S.J. The scholarship is restricted to earth and atmospheric science majors.
Mandeville Prize Endowment This scholarship is a yearly prize for the best English major which honors Dr. Helen Mandeville, a 1955 Arts graduate and former English faculty member.
Marianne E. and Peter A. Gleich Scholarship in French This fund shall be used for financial aid awards to undergraduate juniors and seniors majoring in French. Mary Joan Maniscalco Drama Scholarship This scholarship provides financial assitance to drama students in the Fine & Performing Arts Department.
Maurice McNamee, SJ Scholarship Fund This endowed scholarship is for art history students.
Max and Barb Lubin Scholarship in Humanities This fund provides scholarships for students in field of humanities w emphasis on assisting students with exceptional ability in areas other than the sciences.
Mazza Graduate Fellowship in Spanish This scholarship was established in 1995 by various donors, including the Jesuit Community Corporation and the Missouri Province Educational Institute. The late Fr. Rosario Mazza, S.J. was a professor in the Department of Modern and Classical languages.
Merlo Endowed Scholarship Fund This fund was established by William Merlo in memory of his wife. The scholarship is for students in the College of Arts.
Mev Puleo Scholarship in Latin American Theology and Culture This fund provides a scholarship in honor of Mev Puelo for students studying latin american theology and culture.

Montesi Achievement Award This fund was named to honor Albert J. Montesi, former English professor. English majors compete for the prize by submitting works in the categories of fiction, poetry, drama, creative non-fiction, painting, music, photography and film.
Morton J. May Endowment-Music Program This fund was established in 1984 by the estate of Morton D. May. The scholarship is restricted to student involved in the music program.
Msgr. Charles Burton Mouton Endowed Scholarship Fund Income from this fund provides financial assistance for students in the School of Arts and Sciences. The income fund is administered by the Director of Financial Aid.
Clifford W. and Armarie B. Murphy Endowed Assistantship Award This fund provides and endowed assistantship in biology or chemistry.
Napoli Graduate Fellowship in Psychology This fund was established in 1990 in memory of former faculty member John Napoli by his friends and colleagues. The fund is restricted to a graduate student in the Department of Psychology who shows great promise as a teacher.
Nick J. Colarelli Fund This fund is to provide award to an outstanding student studying Industrial-Organizational Psychology. It was requested in May 2005 to create this fund, but the information was never forwarded to Development Services to set up the fund on this side until
Norbury L. Wayman Endowed Scholarship This fund provides financial aid to full-time undergraduate students majoring in history who are eligible for such aid in accordance with the policies and procedures of the University.
Olson Endowed Award in Psychology This fund was established in 1999 by Gayle and Richard Olson. The Olsons both earned their M.S. and Ph.D.'s in psychology from Saint Louis University in 1968 and 1971, respectively. Each year the Psychology Department faculty present an Olson Award to the
Otto Nuttli Endowed Graduate Fellowship This fund was established in 1988 by the colleagues and former students of Dr. Nuttli in his memory. Dr. Nuttli was a former faculty member as well as a 1948 graduate of the University's Institute of Technology.
Poelker Fellowship-Public Administration This fund grants full tuition remission to a student pursuing a Master of Arts in Public Administration.
Prof Students in Theology Scholarship This scholarship was established in 1975 by the Fusz Memorial for professional students in Theology.
Rev Francis Guentner SJ Scholarship This fund was established by the alumni of the University Choral Group in honor of Rev. Guentner, a former faculty member. The scholarship is for students in the Music Department.
Rev. J. Barry McGannon, S.J. Scholarship This scholarship was established in 2001 by James R. Weber in memory of Fr. J. Barry McGannon, former University Vice President, for students in the College of Arts
Richard C Holton & Lawrence J Baricevic Endowed Scholarship This fund provides financial support for students in the Communication department
Robert Clive Roach Fellowship in French This fund was established in 1989 by Jean Rehm in memory of her brother, a faculty member and a 1947 Arts graduate. The fellowship is for students in the College of Arts studying French.
Robert E. Flood Scholarship Fund This fund was established in memory of Robert E. Flood, a 1950 Arts graduate and former St. Louis advertising executive. The scholarship is for communication majors.
Robert L. and John M. McCarthy Memorial Endowed Scholarship This scholarship fund is used to support students in the College of Arts and Sciences based on their merit and financial needs.
Roland & Gloria Herbst Scholarship Fund This scholarship was established by Roland and Gloria Herbst for graduate or undergraduate students in the College of Arts. Mr. Herbst is a 1948 Arts graduate and a 1953 Graduate School alumnus. Mrs. Herbst is a 1953 Arts graduate.
Sid & Ada Mudd Endowed Scholarship This fund was established in 1988 by Sid and Ada Mudd for graduate students in the Department of Theological Studies who are teaching or intend to teach at the primary or secondary level in a Catholic Parochial School. Mr. Mudd is a 1938 Arts graduate.
Speech & Hearing Clinic Internship This fund was established in 1983 in the Department of Communication Disorders by Citicorp Person-to-Person, Inc. and the Orthodontic Education and Research Foundation. The internship is restricted to students in the College of Arts.
Sr. Shirley Kolmer Endowed Scholarship This scholarship was established to remember Sr. Kolmer, a former faculty member in mathematics who died performing missionary work. Sr. Kolmer was a 1956 Arts graduate and a 1959 Graudate School alumnus.
St.Louis College of Pharmacy External Practicum Student Fund This sponsored program is used for St. Louis COP's external practicum for students in psychology.
Student to Student Scholarship Fund The purpose of this fund is to record alumni contributions for scholarship support to psychology students.
Thomas J. Kramer Fund This fund is established to provide a monetary award for outstanding contributions by a student to the Industrial-Organizational Psychology Program.
Thomas P. Neill Endowed Scholarship This scholarship for history students was established in memory of Dr. Neill, a 1937 Arts graduate and former professor of history.
Tony Thompson - Kwame Fndtn./St. Louis Rep. Co. Scholarship The Tony Thompson - Kwame Foundation/St. Louis Black Repertory Company Endowed Scholarship will provide support toward the tuition of a student interning at the Black Repertory Theatre and majoring in Performing Arts at Saint Louis University. Vernon K. Kofron, Jr. Memorial Fund The purpose of the fund was to establish a fund, by Vernon (As'44) and Mary Kofron in honor of their late son, Vernon Jr. The fund will benefit students who are biology majors in the pre-med program. Idealy, it will be awarded to a freshman who will retain it throughout his/her career at SLU.
Walter & Peggy Kramer Scholarship Fund This fund was established by Walter (AS43) and Peggy Kramer to benefit undergraduate students within the College of Arts and Sciences.
William & Clara Roedig Scholarship This fund was established by the late Charles F. Roedig, a 1943 Arts graduate. The scholarship gives preference to juniors and seniors majoring in modern languages.
William H. and Helen E. Blake Endowed Scholarship in English The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships in English in the College of Arts and Sciences to Juniors or Seniors with the following areas of study, in order of preference: (1) a declared double major in English and one of the following languages:
Zonta Club of St. Louis Scholarship for Women in Science Scholarship established to financially aid women students majoring in Biological, Chemical, Physical, or Earth and Atmospheric Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences. Fund will be administered by the Director of Financial Aid.
