December 2011

From Brian and Rebecca Tower
Current Parent Steering Committee Members
& 2003-2004 Parents Program Chair-Couple

We recently had a visit from our son, Jason (A&S ‘02) and his family. We had a wonderful time together. On one of our travels around town, it suddenly became very quiet in the back seat. Mayfair, our two year old granddaughter, had fallen asleep with the little friend she carried around all day. We are hoping for another Billiken in the family someday. But for now, we wish the SLU family the very best of everything this holiday season and throughout the coming year.

2012 Mass & Reception Schedule
There are numerous events throughout the year outside the St. Louis area that focus on welcoming potential parents and students to our Billiken Family. These are ideal for parents who are enthusiastic and friendly and interested in helping parents feel secure about their decisions before, during, and after their student's transition to SLU.

Join area alumni, admitted, and prospective students, and their parents for a mass and brunch especially for the SLU community. Reconnect with your Jesuit roots and share your experiences with future SLU students. Register online and plan to attend one of the following events.

Parents, watch your mailboxes for a postcard to arrive in mid-December.  The postcard will have the link to our annual parent’s letter which includes information about how your student will sign up for a space on campus next year. Our 2nd annual online Select Room process will start with applications in mid-December and room selection in late March 2012.

Make A Difference Day
A record-breaking 3,000 Saint Louis University students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and friends for volunteered for the 2011 Make a Difference Day held on October 29. The day began with a Kick-Off Ceremony in the Soccer Stadium, then groups of volunteers dispersed to over 100 non-profits, schools, neighborhoods and homes for a day of giving back. Eight parent volunteers participated on that vibrant day. Full story
